In 1927, Cleo's mother (Myrtle Porter Vermilion) traveled to New York City to record music. She was the autoharp player for the Dykes "Magic City" Trio. Along with John Dykes playing the fiddle and "Hub" Mahaffey playing the guitar, this was one of the earliest known country music recordings. Below are those recordings in MP3 and WMA formats.
